My self-esteem has had a big boost ever since I’ve been in AVID and I hope it stays like that. I’ve learned that I don’t need anybody. By that I mean that I don’t have to depend on someone to make me feel happy, beautiful, or thinner. I am who I am and God made me this way. AVID saved my life. Before I would always think negative about myself. I would say I’m fat, ugly, unappreciated and stuff like that. The negative things being said about me traumatized me. Why? I would always bet bullied at school. People judged me, and didn’t know what I had been through
My AVID family has helped me to cope with my weaknesses by encouraging me. I overcame my weaknesses because of AVID. In AVID, I noticed everyone does their own work so why can’t I? Everybody in my AVID family inspires me. They inspired me to be someone better. By that I mean they encourage me to apply to higher education high school. My AVID family isn’t just a family at school, there more than family and dear to me. Most of my AVID family are good friends of mine that I’ve known for more than a year now. There the type of friends that I know won’t turn back on me.
AVID has helped me face and get through school obstacles and personal ones too. Before, for example in 7th grade my life was a big disaster. My grades weren’t how I expected them to be. My backpack was a hot mess. I lost all of my papers in my backpack. I would constantly get frustrated with my unorganized self. Now I look back and I’m not the same I was a year. AVID matured me and made me realize that being organized can boost up my grades. My 8th grade year so far is amazing. I’m organized and well prepared to learn in class.
AVID has also helped me to be organized at home and with my schoolwork. Now I am way more organized than I was before. I’ve seen the impact from Cornell Notes in my grades. They help me study a lot when I have tests.
Throughout my AVID experience I’ve learned so much many things I didn’t know before. And I thank my AVID mother Ms. Watkins for teaching me everything I need to know that will benefit me in the future. In close, as we like to say Make It Happen!
