House Bill 5 is a bill that makes algebra 2 not required for students to take in order to graduate high school. Many student would like that because it would be a class less that they would have to take in order to graduate high school.
Students are not going to want to take algebra 2 now that it is not required to take in order to graduate high school but if they are applying to a college they might not be accepted. 4-year colleges and universities require you to have taken algebra 2 in high school to be able to qualify and if they don't have it... they might not be accepted. If the college you want to attend to requires you to have taken algebra 2 in high school, it is going to be too late and take that class because you cannot go back and take that class. I think the house bill 5 is not really necessary because algebra 2 helps you learn more and it also helps you get in to college. Instead of students taking algebra 2 they would have to take another class that might not even be necessary. Students are going to take another class that they do not need just to not take algebra 2.Algebra 2 is really helpful for all students even if they are going to college or not going to college.
For students who plan to apply for college, it is better for them to take algebra 2 because most of the colleges require you to have taken algebra 2 in high school and the college that you are applying to might end up requiring you to have taken algebra 2 in high school. Students should not risk themselves and take algebra 2 whether it is required for them to graduate high school or not.
For example, I think taking algebra 2 is important to take even if it helps you graduate or not because it helps you learn more than you already know. I am going to take algebra 2 in high school to learn more about algebra and just in case the college that I want to apply to requires me to have taken that class in high school to get accepted to that college.
In conclusion, I think all students should be required to take algebra 2. Students are too young to realize the impact this will have on their future.
